Conflict Resolver and Restorative Justice Advocate
Dr. Margaret Brown's (Akiiki) journey from a global traveler to a passionate certified mediator is marked by a profound commitment to healing and community building. With a master's degree in Community Building/Conflict Resolution, and a Doctorate in Education with an emphasis in Instructional Design, Akiiki has seen firsthand the devastating effects of conflict through her travels around the world. She has dedicated herself to being the change she wished to see in the world. She became a certified mediator through the Mediation Network of North Carolina. Akiiki has been a mediator since 2011. She's also participated in over 120 co-mediations and has extensive experience working with the Cumberland County Courthouse on a wide range of cases, from marital disputes to neighborhood conflicts. Her involvement in Teen Court further highlights her dedication to restorative justice. She created a Peer-2-Peer Mediation course for middle school and high school students. With her experience, talent, and education Dr. "Akiiki" has amassed a keen ability to customize training up to top C' suit levels.
Showcasing her passion in this space, Akiiki also established her own mediation consulting business, where she actively creates restorative communities. She has trained organizations nationwide, delivering impactful workshops on Leadership & Development within the DEI space. Her recently published book, “Healing Connections: Restorative Justice and Reconciliation,” delves into her transformative approaches to conflict resolution training. As an Army Veteran, Akiiki brings a disciplined, and empathetic approach to her work. Her role as a Certified Restorative Justice Train-the-Trainer Instructor, her completion of the Restorative Justice for Educators program, and her volunteer work with at-risk high school students exemplify her dedication to empowering others. Akiiki developed a Basic Mediation course, offering continuing education credits in Chicago and North Carolina, spreading her knowledge and building bridges around the world. Her unwavering commitment to restorative justice and community healing continues to inspire and transform lives. Her motto is her mode of persuasion which is “Yes, is in the Middle,” and has become world-renowned.
